How to Generate Leads and Find Your Audience Online
▶TLDR
- You find your audience by getting specific, not by trying to reach everyone.
- You can generate leads online without leaning on paid ads.
- Trust built before the pitch is what turns attention into clients.
Every owner wants more leads. Fewer stop to ask who those leads should be. On The Entrepreneur's Tribe Podcast with Joel Ong, I talked about both sides: finding your audience online and generating leads without pouring money into ads.
I've worked with over 500 companies and spent more than 5 million dollars on Google and Facebook, all while running a remote team and traveling. That taught me that the answer is rarely more spend. It's more focus.
Find your audience by getting specific
When you try to reach everyone, you connect with no one. Finding your audience starts with getting specific about who you serve and the exact problem you solve for them. The narrower you go, the easier you are to find and remember.
Say who it's for in plain words, name their problem back to them, and the right people will recognize themselves. That clarity is what makes your message stick online. I got into more of this in a conversation on the Business Mastermind Podcast.
Generate leads without ads
Ads can work, but they're not the only door, and for most owners they're not the first one. Organic content, referrals, short personal video, and guesting on podcasts all bring in warm leads without a media budget.
What ties them together is trust built before the pitch. Show up where your audience already is, be useful, and be clear about who you help. Do that steadily and people reach out ready to talk. For a related take, here's a conversation on the InnovaBuzz podcast.
