Online Networking That Fills Your Pipeline Without Ads

TLDR
- Your content builds trust. It does not book clients on its own, so you have to send traffic to it.
- Video and audio messages beat text, because text is easy to ignore.
- Work the Rule of 10 and follow up. Most people do not say yes the first time.
Hailey Rowe helps coaches book clients. Her show, Health Coach Nation, is packed with marketing and sales tips for service businesses. We talked about online networking and lead generation, which is how I book most of my clients without spending a dollar on ads. Here is how it works.
Content builds trust, not leads
People think good content will hand them clients. It will not. Content is there to make you look credible. Set up your profile so it looks the part. Post four to six times a week. Use video, because video builds trust faster than anything else. Speak to the questions and problems your ideal follower has. Do not fixate on followers or likes. Post for the people you want, not the numbers.
Once the content is up, you still have to send traffic to it. That means creating things with businesses that serve the same people you do, reaching out for partnerships, and going on podcasts where your people already listen. When you weigh a partnership, ask two questions. Does it bring my audience value I cannot give them myself? Is this a direct competitor? That keeps you honest. I get into the connection side of this more on the InnovaBuzz podcast.
Reach out like a human, not a pitch
Cold messages that jump straight to selling do not work. People see them and tune out. So I slow down. I check the person's profile first. Then I send a short video or audio message, because text is easy to ignore and a face is not. A simple hello works. Something like, hi, it's Mike, love what you are doing, just wanted to say hi. On LinkedIn I aim for around 150 of these a week, and across everything I am putting out 150 to 250 videos a week. Consistency is the whole game.
The Rule of 10 and the follow-up
Here is the math I keep in my head. Out of 100 people you reach, expect about 10 to reply. Out of those 10, expect about one to say yes. That is the Rule of 10. Once you know the numbers, a no stops stinging. No is part of the game, and a no is still a door. If someone is not a fit, ask if they know anyone who is.
The last piece is follow-up. Almost nobody decides right away. When you get a maybe, follow up and answer their questions. Most people quit right before the yes. I talk more about the money and systems side of a service business on the Business Mastermind podcast.
