TLDR

Mike joined Kimberly Hambrick on The Cannoli Coach to talk about sustainability in leaders and organizations. He has lived the other side of it, so this one hits close to home.

Here is how Mike thinks about building something that lasts.

Sustainability starts with a simpler offer

Most owners wear themselves out by selling everything they can do. A long menu feels safe, but it means every client wants something different, and you never get to repeat your best work. Mike's answer is to narrow down to one clear offer with one clear outcome. When the work repeats, it gets easier, not heavier. That is what makes a business you can run for years instead of one that runs you into the ground.

Trade heroics for systems

The other thing that burns leaders out is doing everything themselves. Mike's fix is boring on purpose. Record your tasks as you do them, bucket them by type, and hand off the bucket that hurts most. A company that leans on one person's heroics is fragile. A company that runs on simple systems is steady, and so is the person leading it. For more on that shift, the DoGoodWork conversation pairs well, and the Startup Canada episode covers building something durable.
