You're good at what you do, and your clients get results because of it. But most of that work can only be done by you, so the whole business runs on you and never slows down. Here's the cycle:
You write the number, then you talk yourself down and send a smaller one. You price on what the client can afford, not on what the work is worth, because you can't afford to lose the deal. You've meant to raise your rates for a while, but you don't fully believe the higher number yet, so it never comes out of your mouth.
You don't have a sales process, so a good call ends and you can't tell if it's a yes. You couldn't say what made it land, so you can't do it on purpose next time. When the silence runs long, you drop the price before they push back. Playing small shows, so even the clients who sign walk away a little unsure they picked right.
The scope drifts a little each week, and you take the unpaid extra because saying no is harder. It all runs through you. You hand work to a contractor and it comes back wrong, because there's no process to give them. You've thought about hiring and backed off, so the systems never get built. You wanted freedom, and instead the business runs on you.
