When people think about testimonials and reviews they often think about the yelp review they left after a great meal that one time (or likelier the terrible meal they had)
I was talking with Mark from the Open AI Training Podcast this week and got on this subject. BTW you can check out his podcast here for all of your simple AI business enhancement needs.
We don’t often take time out of our days to write them and most business owners underestimate the power of asking for them.
I’m going to skip over the benefits of receiving testimonials to keep this one concise.
Let me share a few ideas of how I have leveraged writing testimonials to build relationships and generate new business for myself.
If these testimonials are done well they have the chance of being shared on social media and websites that can be viewed by your ideal clients.
Give a shout out
Making a post on social media giving credit to someone for being awesome always goes over well. You can also share a post that they made and add your endorsement.
You can call out - An idea they shared - An article or podcast they published - Something they accomplished - A moment or memory you have of them
Highlight a product
Make a testimonial video or walk through of a product or software that shares your ideal audience. It is almost guaranteed that they will share it on their social media and if you produce something great, maybe on their website.
I have been on the clickcease website homepage for over 4 years and people contact me regularly asking me about the software. Many of these people are agency owners who are potential clients for me.
What to include in the video - How you use the product - What life was like before and after using it - A surprise benefit of the product
Record a video
Video testimonials are incredibly powerful. Text can be fabricated (I see it all the time on people's websites) but video cannot (I know, I know, give it 2 months until AI can do it but play along with me).
Video can be used on web, social, and chopped up for a ton of different uses.
There is a powerful format that I learned from Donald Miller that captures everything that a great and powerful testimonial requires
What was the problem you had before discovering the product
What did the frustration feel like while you tried to solve the problem
What was different about the product
Take them through the moment when you realized the product was really solving the problem
Explain what life looks like now that the problem is solved/is being solved
