Taylor Swift

Updated: Sep 13

Regardless of if you are watching the game tonight, there is a 100% chance that you have heard about Taylor Swift dating Travis Kesey (a player for Kansas City).

But behind the celebrity gossip there is a fascinating marketing concept to be explored.

What is your unexpected $330m multiplier?

I use that number because it has been calculated that Taylor Swifts attendance to the Kansas City games has increased the teams value by $330m.

That’s a big jump for a business worth 4.3 billion.

So how can you leverage this idea of outside celebrity to build revenue and value to your own business?

Here are a few ideas:

  1. Whose endorsement would attract a spike of customers to your business? It could be an influencer in your niche, another business that sells an adjacent service, or a platform that attracts your customers (think podcast). Maybe it’s time to reach out to these people and begin building relationships. What can you do to make their lives easier or their businesses better? What type of agreement could be mutually beneficial and help you both grow?

  2. Get the placement ad blow it up. The power of using Meta ads to boost an important piece of content cannot be overlooked here. If you get that podcast placement or shout-out from the “celebrity” in your niche make sure to run ads based on that content. The single post on social media will attract some attention but as we know content quickly fades and becomes a thing of the past. Keep these victories alive by running paid media to let more people see the endorsement.

  3. Pay for it. Sometimes it’s easier to simply pay for product placement (you being the product). This can be in the format of guest blog posts, influencer shoutouts, paid articles from big publications, paying to speak on stage, and more. The truth is that one strong piece of content can fundamentally change your business. Lean into the idea of using some of your marketing budget to capture an endorsement.

Hope that helps.

Go Niners!

Mike
